Our Siegen: The home of your story

The project is a collection of stories from Siegen citizens, from the 1920s to the present day – stories that are personal, exciting, informative, political, sporty and professional. The stories are told by their authors in words, images and videos.

The special nature of the project lies in the way ‘Our Siegen’ invites citizens to write their own city’s history by actively contributing their own memories. In this way, personal experiences add up to the exciting story of a city – from the tough yet enjoyable working lives of miners and the creation of the Geisweid garden town of Wenscht to the heavy bombing raid of 1944, school life in the 1930s, the origins of the university and the legendary football match played by Sportfreunde Siegen when the club’s Leimbach stadium opened in 1959. The portal is always growing and will eventually expand into a collective memory for the city of Siegen.
