Shopping in Weidenau: Fun for the whole family
For decades, the large roofed shopping centre in Siegen’s Weidenau district (affectionately known as the Wirenau in the local dialect) has been one of the city’s main shopping destinations – even (or especially) when it’s raining, as the shops are fully covered.
Highlights include a spacious Modehaus Wagener, several perfume shops and pharmacies, a large electrical store, a toy shop, jewellers, supermarkets and cosy boutiques. There are also plenty of places to eat, including a genuine Italian ice cream parlour, several cafés and bakeries and various popular restaurants offering Turkish, Asian, Italian and German fare.
The Siegerland-Center also serves as the regular venue for popular events like the ‘Rock am Center’ concert series, a childrens’ summer festival and Weidenau’s magical Christmas celebrations, with much for kids to enjoy and get involved in. The Pagodeon music event is also held around the Weidenau Bürgerbrunnen fountains. Every Saturday and Sunday, and on the final Sunday before Christmas, live bands play in marquees as visitors enjoy delicious mulled wine and some exceptional beers.
