The mountain called, and around 11,000 people came
In late-summer weather, Siegen’s city centre was transformed into a lively entertainment strip on 19 September. Around 11,000 visitors heeded the mountain’s call and enjoyed a varied programme along Germany’s steepest pedestrian zone.
From the valley station at Kölner Tor right up to the Upper Castle, numerous shops, restaurants and other organisers invited visitors to linger and explore with special promotions, culinary delights and musical performances. Live music, DJ sets, hands-on activities for young and old, and numerous culinary highlights created a special atmosphere in the town centre and the Upper Town throughout the day.
The ‘Hübbelbummler’ was also out and about, giving many guests a relaxed ride up the hill. Guided tours led by city guides and Mayor Tristan Vitt offered fascinating insights into the history of Siegen’s Upper Town.
The excellent response and the consistently positive atmosphere demonstrated once again just how vibrant and diverse Siegen’s city centre is. A heartfelt thank you goes to all the participating businesses, clubs, musicians and the many visitors who made ‘Der Berg ruft’ such a successful day of events.
One thing is already certain: the mountain called, and Siegen answered. We look forward to the next edition.
