Tasting, Chewing Chatting – Eating and Drinking in the Old Craftsmen’s Quarter
When the potato arrived in Europe in the late 19th century, it was initially met with skepticism and was even frowned upon as a "witch plant." But soon the tuber, affectionately called “Duffel” in Siegerland, found its place in the local gardens.
It quickly developed into an indispensable food and is still indispensable in many traditional dishes of the region, such as “Riewekooche”, the typical Siegerland potato bread.
The diet of our ancestors was based on what the gardens produced. A walk through the old cabbage gardens of the old town provides interesting insights into the traditional Siegerland cuisine. City guide Ingrid Heinz immerses her guests in the world of herbs, salts and spices from her own workshop. After an entertaining hour, it's off to the Café Noir, where participants can not only enjoy a drink but also taste the delicious, original "Sejerlänner Riewekooche." Those who wish can take their "Duffel diploma" at the end of the tour. Bon appetit!
