On the 6th of July 2025, the Oberes Schloss (Upper Castle) and its castle park were transformed into a colourful celebration mile from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. with many activity stands, great hands-on offers, delicious snacks and drinks, live music, a carousel, a bouncy castle and much more. At the same time, the Siegerland Museum in the Oberes Schloss celebrated its annual museum festival with many highlights for young and old.

What was there to discover in the Siegerland Museum?

Happy Birthday! The Siegerland Museum in the Oberes Schloss celebrated its 120th birthday in 2025 and therefore invited visitors to the historic walls of the Oberes Schloss free of charge from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

• Free short tours of the underground exhibition mine, the special exhibition "ZeitRäume. A Castle Becomes a Museum‘ and the collaborative exhibition ’Visiting: Loans from the Museum of Contemporary Art" • Discovery tours for young and old: The free museum bag invited families to discover the museum on their own. The bag was filled with surprises and a children's booklet in which Toni the lion cubled visitors through the museum with exciting puzzles and tasks.
• Hidden pictures: The youth art school invited visitors to explore the Siegerland Museum as part of a museum rally and win great prizes at the end. Those who wanted to could also explore the Siegerland Museum as part of the museum rally and win great prizes at the end.
• Hidden object pictures: The youth art school invited visitors to create hidden object pictures using homemade stencils.
• Photo box provided by the Friends of the Siegerland Museum and Oberes Schloss Association for a special souvenir photo.
• Popcorn machine for a snack on the go
• Printing workshop in the castle courtyard: Creativity was called for here! In the castle courtyard, young and old alike could try out various printing techniques using milk cartons. Those who wanted to experience one of the most modern printing techniques could then watch the 3D printer at work in the ideas workshop in the attic

There was also a varied programme in the castle park

Whether exercise, art activities, a bouncy castle or a fairy tale carousel: there was plenty going on in the beautiful castle gardens from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

• Free city wall tours: The summer festival was held to celebrate the completion of the renovation of Siegen's city wall! Anyone who wanted to learn more about this important historical structure could take part in one of the two city wall tours. Within an hour, visitors learned a lot of interesting facts about the history of the city wall and the renovation process.
• Creative activities: ‘Painting Party’ with relaxed DJ music, teddy bear clinic, giant soap bubbles, button design with the button machine, bag painting, crown and screw man crafting, and tattoos in the teepee.
• Exercise: juggling workshop with great show performances and exercise course with running map
• For the little ones: fairy tale children's carousel, colourful bouncy castle and face painting
• Enjoy: Picnic area with parasols and deck chairs
• Culinary delights: Delicious hot and cold drinks, waffles, cakes, crêpes, waffle cheeseburgers, sandwiches, soft ice cream, bubble waffles and fresh fruit

Sunday afternoon at 4 o'clock in the castle gardens: Parallel to the summer festival, there was plenty to listen to at 4 p.m. in the pavilion in the castle gardens: The ‘Swinging Elephants’ were guests, playing classic swing, jazz, Latin and well-known pop hits from recent decades. 

Despite the mixed weather, it was a great event!
