Siegen's Old Town - Where the Guilds Resided
The “Unteres Schloss“ (lower castle) was the residence of the Protestant line of the Nassau-Siegen dynasty. The Martini Church, Siegen's oldest sacred building, and the Museum of Contemporary Art are located in the immediate neighbourhood.
The buildings are viewed from the outside before the route leads through the Alte Poststraße pedestrian zone into the old town quarter. Here you will come across building ensembles in the characteristic half-timbered style that have survived war and destruction. Street names tell the story of the guilds that once plied their trade here.
