Siegen Currently: Use Now – Economic Promotion Offers Start-Up Help

Reviving and reusing vacant retail premises: This is the aim of the funding programme "Sustainable city centres and town centres in NRW" (ZIO), which uses the economic promotion of the City of Siegen to financially and conceptually support businesses and start-ups in the re-establishment of retail premises. Both potential tenants and property owners who want to increase the attractiveness of their premises with the help of discounted rents are addressed.

"Above all, new developments that strengthen the industry mix, increase frequencies and enrich the attractiveness of the city centre should be promoted," said Thomas Runge, head of the city's economic development department. "These can be concept stores, retail and gastronomic offerings, or also creative and cultural uses," he added.
Here's how the start-up helper works:

The city leases vacant or threatened retail premises and leases them to third parties at a heavily reduced rent for up to two years. This gives the new tenants time to establish their business concept in the medium term. The economic support also helps with finding suitable premises and advises on issues around the particular business and location. The support programme runs until 2026.
