Meeting Place in the Upper Town: the Alfred-Fißmer-Anlage

Right next to the Nikolai Church, the Alfred-Fissmer-Anlage invites you to linger. With its bubbling fountain, old trees, many shady benches, large outdoor chess set and neighbouring restaurants, it is a central meeting point in the Upper Town. It was named after Mayor Alfred Fißmer (1878-1966).

The bronze fountain was commissioned by the city and was created in 1976 by Ladislaus Schwartz, a well-known Romanian-German sculptor. In the style of the 1970s, the water feature is reminiscent of a UFO and is an attraction for young and old, especially in spring and summer.
