Kunstverein Siegen

The Kunstverein Siegen was founded in 1980 as a civic initiative as a non-profit organisation for the promotion and mediation of contemporary art. It sees it as its task to track down socially relevant themes in practice and theory and to present young, current national and international artistic positions to a broad public.

In addition to solo and themed group exhibitions in Haus Seel, a particular focus is on opening up the Kunstverein's work to the urban space. Performative formats such as the ‘Siegen City Walks’, site-specific projects and interactive programmes in public spaces expand the traditional exhibition activities. This is complemented by discussion formats, guided tours, art trips, films, lectures and publications that invite the public to participate in cultural processes and enter into a lively dialogue about contemporary art. These diverse activities combine to form an overall structure with a city-wide presence that sustainably strengthens the Kunstverein's role as a cultural network.
