Jewish Life in the Siegerland - A Tour Against Forgetting
‘Never Again is Now!’
The memory of the many victims of National Socialism should not fade - not even in Siegen. As in previous years and with a view to current socio-political developments and events, Stadtmarketing Siegen is once again offering themed tours with a different focus in 2026 in collaboration with the Active Museum South Westphalia.
The tours are intended to remind people of the many Jewish fates in the Siegerland region and show where extreme political developments have led in the past. ‘Never again is now’ - and so the focus is also on the future, because today it is more important than ever to learn from the past and draw attention to values such as tolerance and democratic coexistence.
The central locations in Siegen are the upper town, the lower town, the railway station and the Siegerlandhalle. The tours are led by Traute Fries, who has been committed to keeping the history of Jewish life in the Siegerland region alive for almost 50 years. She helped set up the Active Museum of South Westphalia and has been offering guided tours for schoolchildren and adults for many years.
