Curtain up! Theatre in Siegen
Unique live experiences, the interaction between artists and audience, and the incredible variety of themes ranging from classical to modern make theatres very special cultural meeting places. The Apollo Theatre and the Bruchwerk Theatre demonstrate just how vibrant Siegen's theatre scene is ...
Apollo Theatre Siegen
Hardly any other building has dominated the image of Siegen's lower town for as long as the Apollo Theatre. It was designed by Düsseldorf architect Ernst Huhn and has been a venue for ‘sound film art and variety shows’ since it first opened in November 1935. Greats such as Marika Rökk and Heinz Rühmann, as well as the Busch Quartet and the Gewandhaus Orchestra, have performed on its stage.
After several decades as a cinema centre and extensive new construction behind the typical Apollo front, the new modern theatre opened in 2007 with a large auditorium seating more than 500 and the Apollo Studio in the foyer along the Sieg River. In addition to two to three in-house productions per season, the Apollo stage presents a wide range of classical and modern theatre works, dance pieces, concerts and musical theatre for all generations. Popular formats such as ‘Theatre & Talk’, ‘Theatre & Church’, ‘Apollo Welcomes’ and guided tours invite visitors to engage in conversation and take an exciting look behind the scenes.
Tip: The Pinea restaurant in the foyer serves drinks and delicious snacks. It opens an hour and a half before the event and remains open for an hour afterwards, as well as during the intervals.

Bruchwerk Theatre
Experimental and free, modern and regional. As an independent studio theatre, Bruchwerk Theatre on Siegbergstraße combines professional acting with participatory theatre workshops, giving interested parties the opportunity to learn from professionals and gain their own stage experience. The content focuses on contemporary theatre, modern drama and performance. The productions focus on topics that are close to everyone's hearts and occupy their minds.
The Bruchwerk Theatre aims to be a stage for everyone – a stage that focuses on interaction between actors and audience and shared experiences. The four to five premieres per season are all Siegen's own productions, including successful collaborative projects such as ‘Schacht ...’, which artistically stages Siegen's mining history on the occasion of the city's 800th anniversary. Of particular interest are the professional workshops and projects for amateurs, including the Theatre Workshop 60+, Improvisation Workshop and Dance Workshop.
