Tradition at the „Unteres Schloss“ (lower castle)

The traditional Christmas market on the „Unteres Schloss“ square invited visitors to take a winter stroll from the 22nd of November to the 23rd of December 2024 and, for the first time, after the festive period from the 27th of December to the 29th of December 2024. Against the picturesque backdrop of the castle grounds, traders presented Christmas gifts and decorations made of wax, ceramics, wool, wood and much more. To warm up, there were delicious punch, beer and mulled wine specialities, fresh grilled sausage, potato pancakes, vegan and vegetarian treats and sweet temptations such as gingerbread, roasted almonds, waffles and crêpes.

Another highlight this year was the ice skating rink with skate hire, where young and old could skate their laps in the light. On the main stage, local choirs, bands and dance groups showed what they are capable of. They included Max Goedecke on the 6th of December and UnArt on the 28th of December. The programme also included festive walking acts, craft activities and story readings. The big New Year's Eve party with a laser show on the 31st of December brought the town's anniversary year to a close.

Winter Magic at the Sparkasse

The small, very popular Winterzauber event at the Sparkasse in Unterstadt started on the 18th of November in 2024. It is traditionally more of a culinary event and invited visitors to enjoy a Christmas feast between the train station and the Apollo Theatre. There were Hungarian langos with sour cream topping, bratwurst, crêpes, mulled wine and regional beer specialities.

Christmas Market in the Weidenau Shopping Centre

The Christmas market in the Weidenau district of Siegen opened its doors on 25/11/2024. Until the 23rd of December, many traditional stalls, carousels and caterers offered a particularly atmospheric shopping experience. The curling rink, where everyone can put their skills to the test, provided fun winter fun this year

In addition to classic delicacies such as potato pancakes, waffles, pizza and grilled specialities, the menu also included vegan specialities, potato dishes and hot chestnuts. Music enthusiasts got their money's worth in the Pagodeon, the tent city on the Sieg. The popular karaoke evenings also took place here.

The little ones could look forward to Punch and Judy shows, great Christmas concerts with Thomas Frevel, Mickey & Minnie Mouse and Funny Fux. The Weidenau elves Robby and Bobby were also there again, handing out small gifts and sweets from the Christmas stage every day at 5 pm from 1 December.
