Tradition at the „Unteres Schloss“ (lower castle)

The traditional Christmas market on the square at the Lower Castle invites you to take a winter stroll from the 21st of November to the 29th of December 2025. Against the picturesque backdrop of the Lower Castle, traders present Christmas gifts and decorations made of ceramics, wood and wax, as well as handmade jewellery and works of art by talented local artists. To warm up, there will be delicious punch, beer and mulled wine specialities, fresh grilled sausages, potato pancakes, vegan and vegetarian treats and sweet temptations such as gingerbread, roasted almonds, waffles and crêpes.

Once again this year, the ice rink with skate hire is a traditional visitor magnet, where young and old alike can skate around in the glow of the lights. School classes, kindergartens and clubs are welcome to move their ‘sports lessons’ to the ice rink at special rates. 

On the main stage, local choirs, dance groups and bands will show off their talents. Younger guests can look forward to craft afternoons, great hands-on activities and, of course, a visit from St. Nicholas on the 6th of December. Highlights between Christmas and New Year include the largest ice disco in South Westphalia with DJ Lukas Federhen on the 27th of December, a performance by Circus Trumpf on the 28th of December, and a big family day with reduced ride prices on the 29th of December. 

Christmas time in Krönchenvillage

The small but charming Krönchenvillage, located beneath Siegen's eponymous landmark, opens its doors every Friday, Saturday and Sunday during Advent. On all four levels of the Fissmer complex, against the magnificent backdrop of St. Nicholas' Church, visitors can expect a wide range of handicrafts, from woodwork and embroidery to handmade items, hats and scarves, high-quality leather goods and outdoor clothing. There is also plenty to satisfy your appetite: selected delicacies, mustard, honey, spices, olive oils and delicious mulled wine specialities are sure to delight foodies. 

Winter Magic at the Sparkasse

On November 21, 2025, the small but very popular Winter Magic event will also begin at the Sparkasse bank in the lower town. Traditionally focused on food, it invites visitors to enjoy festive treats between the train station and the Apollo Theater. Hungarian lángos with sour cream topping, bratwurst, crêpes, mulled wine, and regional beer specialties will be available.

Christmas Market in the Weidenau Shopping Centre

The Christmas market in the Weidenau district of Siegen opens its doors daily from 12 noon on the 24th of November 2025. Until the 23rd of December, many traditional stalls, carousels and food stands offer a particularly atmospheric shopping experience in the heart of Weidenau. After last year's great success, the curling rink is back – a fun winter activity for everyone!

Waffles, pizza, chips, barbecue and potato specialities are on the menu this year, along with Venezuelan specialities. There will also be exquisite mulled wines, Belgian beers and delicious hot drinks.

Younger visitors can look forward to fire and juggling shows,  puppet theatre, the story of Ice Princess Elena and her lovable friend, and fantastic Christmas concerts with Thomas Frevel and Funny Fux.  The popular Weidenau elves Robby and Bobby will also be back, handing out balls and sweets from the Christmas stage every day at 5 p.m. starting on the 1st of December. St. Nicholas has announced his visit on the 6th of December. Music fans can look forward to six varied concerts.
