Old Town Festival 2025: Celebrating in front of a historic backdrop
On the 21st of September, the medieval heart of Siegen has been once again a meeting place for young and old. At 12 noon, Mayor Steffen Mues opened this year's city festival, which invited visitors to enjoy live music, activities, culinary delights and free city tours. The focus was on Pfarrer-Ochse-Platz at St. Mary's Church and the historic alleys, where many residents opened their houses and gardens to the public.
Pfarrer-Ochse-Platz & Old Town
On the stage at Pfarrer-Ochse-Platz, the Beselicher Basin Street Band created a lively atmosphere with Dixie, swing, jazz and hits from the 1920s and 30s – without any amplification. The duo ‘Heights to Hills’ also delighted audiences with R&B, funk, soul, pop and their own compositions.
The juggler Micha wandered through the old town, entertaining visitors with juggling and music. Gemstone mining and a fun station from 57 Wasser awaited curious children. Also joining us this time: the enchanting Aurinia von Stempelstein. She took the little ones on an exciting journey through the old town of Siegen. Behind old walls, half-timbered houses and secret corners, little puzzles and stamps await. Those who found all the stations and filled their stamp pass could look forward to a small prize at the end (sponsored and realised by 57wasser & Escape Game Siegen).
It was well worth strolling through the historic streets, as many residents offered activities and a glimpse into their beautiful homes and gardens.
A special highlight were the free guided tours, which brought the old town to life with many stories and anecdotes.
Market square
For the little ones, there was a giant soap bubble workshop, free face painting (Kinderschutzbund Siegen-Wittgenstein), a candy bar and craft activities (CJD), as well as Micha the juggler with juggling and music. Gemstone mining and a play station from 57 Wasser were also included.
Culinary delights
Visitors enjoyed regional specialities and international delicacies around Pfarrer-Ochse-Platz:
